Express Entry Job Offer Points Are Back: 50, 70 or 100 From 3 November 2026

Imagine you are a software developer in Pune. A company in Toronto has offered you a job. Last year, that letter added nothing to your Express Entry score, because IRCC removed job offer points in March 2025. You read the news this week and wonder: does my offer count now, and how much?

The short answer: From 3 November 2026, a valid job offer adds 100, 70 or 50 CRS points, but only if the job is in an occupation on IRCC's high-wage list. The points depend on the NOC code of the job, not on the salary in your letter. You no longer need an LMIA. You get points for a job offer or for Canadian work experience, whichever is higher, never both. An officer will still check that the offer is genuine (IRCC, as of November 2026).

What changes on 3 November 2026

IRCC is adding a new part to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). It is called the Labour Market Integration factor. It gives you points for one of two things (IRCC changes page):

  • your Canadian work experience, with extra points if that work was in a high-wage occupation, or
  • a qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation.

IRCC compares both and gives you the higher score. The maximum is 150 points if you are single and 140 points if your spouse or partner comes with you.

The job offer rules also change. As of 3 November 2026 (IRCC job offer page):

  • you don't need a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) for the offer to count
  • having an LMIA gives you no extra points and no priority
  • the offer can be for a new or an existing position, with a new or an existing employer
  • an officer checks that the offer is genuine

IRCC said it will recalculate every profile in the pool when the change starts. That could take up to two weeks, and IRCC will pause rounds of invitations until it is done.

How many points your job offer adds

The points depend on the level of the job's NOC code on IRCC's high-wage occupations list. A job is "high-wage" if the median wage of everyone in Canada working in that NOC is at least 1.3 times the average median wage of the whole workforce.

Job offerCRS points from 3 November 2026
NOC with a median wage at least 2 times the average100
NOC at least 1.5 times, but under 2 times, the average70
NOC at least 1.3 times, but under 1.5 times, the average50
NOC not on the high-wage list0

Source: IRCC, as of November 2026.

Some examples from the list. Software developers and programmers (NOC 21232) and registered nurses (31301) are in the 1.5 times level, so an offer adds 70. Financial managers (10010) and family physicians (31102) are in the 2 times level, so an offer adds 100. Financial auditors and accountants (11100) and web developers (21234) are in the 1.3 times level, so an offer adds 50. We explain the full levels in our guide to which jobs count as high-wage for Express Entry.

Think of it like a lift with three floors. Your NOC decides which floor you stop at. A higher salary in your letter does not move you to a higher floor.

What it does to a real score

Take our developer in Pune. She is 29 and single, with a bachelor's degree, CLB 9 in all four English abilities and 3 years of work outside Canada. Her score on the official tables is 429. With a qualifying offer as a software developer (70 points), it becomes 499. If the same offer were for a 2 times NOC, it would be 529.

Now compare. A Canadian Experience Class round on 15 October 2026 cut off at 519, and a transport occupations round on 28 October 2026 cut off at 477 (IRCC rounds of invitations). So 70 points can be the difference between waiting and being in range. But points alone do not get you invited. In 2026, IRCC has invited people through specific rounds: Canadian experience, French, occupation categories and provincial nominations. You still need a round that includes you.

Job offer or Canadian work: you get the higher one

This is the part most people miss. The new factor gives you one score, not two.

OptionSingleWith spouse or partner
Canadian work experience: work-length points plus 20, 40 or 70 for 12+ months in a high-wage occupationUp to 150 (80 + 70)Up to 140 (70 + 70)
Qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation50, 70 or 10050, 70 or 100

Source: IRCC, as of November 2026.

So if you already work in Canada, a job offer may add nothing. A single person with 3 years in Canada gets 64 work-length points. If that work was in a 1.5 times NOC, they get 40 more, so 104. A 2 times job offer is worth 100, which is less. IRCC keeps the 104. Ask yourself: which number is bigger for me?

Your Canadian work still counts for skill transferability in the same way as before. IRCC uses the length of your Canadian work there, not the high-wage points.

What makes a job offer "qualifying"

The offer must be valid under Express Entry and in a high-wage occupation. IRCC's job offer page says it must:

  • be recent and in writing
  • not come from an embassy, high commission or consulate in Canada
  • set out your pay and deductions, your duties and your conditions, like hours of work

IRCC's backgrounder of 16 October 2026 adds that it must generally be for full-time, continuous work in Canada for at least one year after you become a permanent resident. A job offer that is revoked no longer qualifies. A work permit on its own is not a job offer, even an open work permit.

The genuineness test

No LMIA does not mean no checks. When you apply for permanent residence, an officer must be satisfied that the offer is genuine. IRCC lists what the officer looks at (IRCC):

  • the employer is active in the business
  • the employer can meet the terms of the offer
  • the offer fits the employer's real needs
  • the employer follows employment and recruitment laws
  • you are qualified and able to do the work
  • you are likely to accept the offer and do the job

If the officer is not satisfied, the offer cannot be used for points or for eligibility. If you claimed points you could not support, you risk a refusal. If the offer was false, you risk a misrepresentation finding and a 5-year ban (IRPA s.40).

Never pay for a job offer

The LMIA was a paper trail. Without it, more people will try to sell "job offers". An employer cannot charge you for a job in Canada. Paying for a job offer or an LMIA is fraud, and it can cost you your application. Read why paying for a job offer or LMIA is a crime and what CBC found when it went undercover.

How to add a job offer to your profile now

IRCC's online system will not show the new rules on 3 November 2026. So IRCC tells you to enter your offer in a specific way. In your profile, under "Work history", say you have a job offer and use these answers (IRCC, as of November 2026):

Question or fieldAnswer IRCC asks you to give
Was a positive LMIA issued for the job offer in Canada?Yes
LMIA Number00000
LMIA Issuance Date2026-01-01
LMIA Expiry Date2029-01-01

This is IRCC's own instruction, not a trick. If you have a real LMIA, enter its real number. For a new offer you also add the start date, the employer's name and address, and the NOC code of the job. IRCC asked people with an offer that is not in their profile to update it before 3 November 2026. If you missed that date, update it as soon as you can.

If your job is not on the high-wage list

Your offer scores 0 CRS points. But it may still matter.

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program: a valid offer in any TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 job can still help you qualify, and it means you don't need to show proof of funds.
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program: a valid offer can replace the certificate of qualification.
  • Provincial streams: some provincial programs need a job offer.

IRCC is clear that CRS job offer points and program eligibility are assessed separately (IRCC). A temporary public policy also removes the LMIA requirement for job offers used for FSW and FST eligibility, for people invited on or after 3 November 2026, if they meet its conditions (IRCC backgrounder). Keep your offer in your profile either way.

The employer side of this changed too. Our guide to LMIA and employer sponsorship explains what employers had to do before; from 3 November, an LMIA is no longer needed for Express Entry job offers.

Five steps for this week

Step 1: Find your NOC code

Use the NOC search tool. Match the duties in your offer letter, not just the job title.

Step 2: Check the high-wage list

Find your code on IRCC's high-wage occupations list. Note the level: 2 times, 1.5 times or 1.3 times.

Step 3: Compare job offer and Canadian work points

If you have worked in Canada, work out both options. You get the higher one only.

Step 4: Update your profile

Enter the offer the way IRCC asks, with the 00000 fields above. Keep a copy of the signed letter and the employer's contact details.

Step 5: Score yourself again

Use the CRS calculator and compare your new score with recent rounds. If your score is still short, read what to fix when your CRS is below the cut-off.

When to get licensed help

Many people can update a profile on their own. Get help from a licensed professional if your NOC is unclear, your offer has unusual terms, you had a past refusal, or someone else is "arranging" your job. In Canada, only lawyers, Quebec notaries and licensed consultants (RCICs) may give immigration advice for a fee (IRPA s.91). Check any consultant on the CICC public register. Our guide on when you need a lawyer, not a consultant explains the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Are job offer points back in Express Entry?

Yes, from 3 November 2026. A qualifying offer in a high-wage occupation adds 100, 70 or 50 CRS points, depending on the NOC's level. Offers in other occupations score 0 points but can still help with program eligibility.

Do I need an LMIA for job offer points now?

No. From 3 November 2026, you don't need an LMIA for an offer to count for Express Entry points or eligibility. Having one gives no extra points. An officer still checks that the offer is genuine.

Can I get job offer points and Canadian work points together?

No. IRCC compares your Canadian work points (work length plus any high-wage points) with your job offer points and gives you the higher one. The maximum is 150 if you are single and 140 with a spouse or partner.

Does a higher salary give me more job offer points?

No. The points depend on the median wage of your NOC across Canada, not on your own salary. Two people with the same NOC get the same points, even if one earns much more.

What do I enter for the LMIA number if I don't have one?

IRCC says to answer "Yes" to the LMIA question and enter 00000 as the number, 2026-01-01 as the issue date and 2029-01-01 as the expiry date. This is a temporary step until IRCC's system is updated.

Will there be draws in the first weeks of November 2026?

IRCC said it would pause rounds of invitations while it recalculates every profile, which could take up to two weeks. Check the official rounds page for the next round.

Your offer is worth points only if it is real

This change rewards real jobs in well-paid occupations. If you have one, add it to your profile properly this week and check your new score. If you don't, the same high-wage list shows which skills Canada now rewards most, which can help you plan your next step.
