Your score is a number. Your plan is not.
Watching the draws every week and feeling your heart drop? That is normal. Express Entry is a ranking, not a pass or fail test. So don’t ask “Am I good enough?” Ask “Which points can I still add?”
How the CRS works
IRCC gives up to 1,200 points in four parts. Figures from the official CRS criteria page.
- Core factors: up to 500 points (460 with a spouse). Age: up to 110, highest at 20 to 29. Education: up to 150. First language: up to 34 per ability at CLB 10. Canadian work: up to 80.
- Spouse factors: up to 40 points for your spouse’s education, language and Canadian work.
- Skill transferability: up to 100 points for combinations, like a degree plus CLB 9, or foreign plus Canadian work.
- Additional points: up to 600. Provincial nomination: 600. Strong French (NCLC 7 in all four abilities): 25 or 50. Study in Canada: 15 or 30. A brother or sister in Canada: 15.
Job offer points are gone. IRCC removed them on 25 March 2025, so a job offer scores 0 here.
What your result means
Most invitations now come through specific rounds. From July to September 2026, Canadian Experience Class rounds cut off at 516 to 523. French-language rounds cut off at 382 to 420. Provincial nominee rounds cut off at 697 to 768, because a nomination adds 600. Check every round on the official rounds of invitations page. Which round could you enter: Canadian work, French, your occupation or a province?
Where most people find points
Language is often the fastest lever. If you are single, one ability from CLB 8 to CLB 9 adds 8 core points. CLB 9 in all four can also double your transferability points. Read which English test to book and what French really adds.
Mistakes to avoid
- Using IELTS Academic. Express Entry accepts only IELTS General Training.
- Letting a test expire. Results must be less than 2 years old when you apply.
- Counting a degree without an Educational Credential Assessment.
- Waiting too long. Age points start to fall at 30 and reach 0 at 45.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good CRS score in 2026?
It depends on the round. From July to September 2026, Canadian Experience Class rounds cut off between 516 and 523. French-language rounds cut off between 382 and 420. A healthcare round on 4 September 2026 cut off at 475, and a trades round on 1 October 2026 at 476. There were no all-program rounds in 2026 up to October.
Do I still get points for a job offer?
No. IRCC removed job offer points on 25 March 2025. Before that, a job offer added 50 points, or 200 for senior management roles. A job offer can still matter for eligibility, for example in the Federal Skilled Trades Program and some provincial streams.
How do I convert my IELTS score to CLB?
IRCC publishes a chart for IELTS General Training. For CLB 9 you need 8.0 in listening and 7.0 in reading, writing and speaking. For CLB 7 you need 6.0 in each ability. The calculator shows the IELTS band next to each CLB level.
Should I add my spouse to my profile?
If your spouse comes with you, your own core points drop a little, because you score on the with-spouse table. Your spouse can then add up to 40 points for education, language and Canadian work. Try both ways in the calculator, and compare who should be the main applicant.
Is this score the same as my official score?
It uses the same official tables, but it is an estimate. Your real score is calculated by IRCC from your Express Entry profile, your test results and your Educational Credential Assessment.
Estimate only, based on IRCC rules checked in October 2026. IRCC sets your official score from your Express Entry profile. This tool does not check program eligibility. Cut-offs change every round.
