Best Country to Migrate From Pakistan in 2026: Options Compared

Imagine you are a civil engineer in Lahore. You have 6 years of experience, a wife who is a doctor, and a daughter starting school. Your salary has not kept up with prices. Power cuts still break up your evenings. Your cousin in Birmingham says "come to the UK". Your friend in Riyadh says "come to the Gulf, save first". An agent in Gulberg says he can "guarantee Canada" for 2 million rupees.

Three people, three answers. Which one fits your family, your budget and your career? And which ones are traps?

The short answer: For a permanent move with your family, Canada is usually the strongest option for Pakistanis, because Express Entry is points-based, ignores nationality and gives your whole family permanent residence together. Germany is the best choice if you can get a job offer and are willing to learn German, with settlement possible in 21 months. Australia pays the most but needs a high points score and an age under 45. The UK works for higher-skilled jobs with a sponsor, but it is expensive and its settlement rules may get longer. The Gulf (Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar) is the fastest way to earn and save, but it does not lead to permanent residence for most workers. There is no "easy" country. The best one is the one where your job, age and savings fit the rules. Figures are as of November 2026.

First, the honest truth about refusals

Pakistani applicants face careful checks. That is not a reason to give up. It is a reason to prepare properly.

Why visas get refused most often:

  • Money that cannot be explained. A large deposit made last month looks borrowed. Officers want to see funds built up over time, with a clear source.
  • Documents that do not match. Names spelled differently on your CNIC, passport, degree and marriage certificate cause delays and doubts.
  • Hiding a past refusal. If any country refused you before, declare it. Hiding it can count as misrepresentation, which is far worse than the refusal itself. Read how to declare a previous visa refusal.
  • Fake or bought documents. Fake degrees and experience letters can lead to multi-year bans. See what happens if you buy a degree or experience letter.
  • A weak study plan. For student visas, a course that does not fit your past studies or career raises questions.

The UK context. In March 2026, the UK started a "visa brake" that stopped study visas for nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan. Pakistan is not on that list. But the same briefing notes that, in the year to September 2025, Pakistani nationals made the highest number of asylum claims after arriving on a UK visa, and the government says other nationalities can be assessed in future (House of Commons Library, April 2026). Expect UK student applications in particular to be checked closely.

Which country would you qualify for?

6 quick questions on your age, skills and English. You get a score out of 100 and a read on each country you pick, on screen. No sign-up.

1. Canada: points, not passports

Express Entry ranks you by age, education, English or French, and skilled work experience. Your nationality does not change your score.

  • Fees: C$1,590 for you and for your spouse, and C$270 per child (IRCC fee list, checked November 2026).
  • Proof of funds: C$15,263 for one person, up to C$28,362 for a family of four, if you apply without a valid job offer (IRCC). Your bank letter must show the average balance for the past 6 months, so sudden deposits stand out.
  • New from 3 November 2026: job offer points are back, at 50, 70 or 100 points, but only for high-wage occupations, and no LMIA is needed (IRCC). Civil engineers (NOC 21300) are on IRCC's high-wage list and in the STEM draw category (IRCC).
  • Warning: anyone selling you a Canadian job offer or LMIA is selling fraud. Read why paying for a job offer or LMIA is a crime.

Check your score with our free CRS calculator. If you need help with a Canadian application, use only a licensed consultant (RCIC) or a lawyer. You can check any consultant on the CICC public register.

2. Germany: best if you have a job offer

With a recognised degree and a job offer, you can get an EU Blue Card if the salary is at least €50,700, or €45,934.20 for shortage occupations like engineers, IT specialists and doctors, and for recent graduates (Make it in Germany, 2026 figures).

3. Australia: highest pay, highest bar

The 189 visa is permanent from day one and includes your family. The main applicant charge is from A$6,135 (Home Affairs). You must be invited before 45 and have at least 65 points, but real invitation scores are often much higher. Most applicants also need a skills assessment for their occupation. Run your numbers in the Australia points calculator.

4. United Kingdom: workable with a sponsor

The Skilled Worker visa needs a licensed sponsor and usually a salary of at least £41,700 or the job's going rate, whichever is higher (GOV.UK). Costs add up fast: £819 per person for up to 3 years, plus £1,035 per adult per year for the health surcharge (GOV.UK). Doctors and nurses on the Health and Care Worker visa pay less: £324 for up to 3 years, and no health surcharge (GOV.UK).

Settlement still usually takes 5 years, but the government has proposed a 10-year baseline for many people. As of November 2026, the final rules are not published (House of Commons Library). Our UK Skilled Worker visa guide covers each step.

5. The Gulf: earn and save, then decide

Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar hire large numbers of Pakistani workers, and the employer usually arranges the visa. Pay is tax-free and you are a short flight from home. In the UAE, you can sponsor your family if you earn at least AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 plus accommodation (UAE government portal).

The limit is permanence. Most Gulf work visas never become permanent residence, so plan your exit from the start. Many people use Gulf years to save, then apply to Canada or Australia. Our guide to leaving Dubai and where to move next explains that second step.

Fake Gulf job offers are common. If an offer asks you to pay for the visa, "processing" or a medical test before you sign a contract, check it here first:

The protector stamp: do not skip it

If you go abroad for a job, Pakistan's Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BE&OE) expects you to register and get the "protector" stamp before you fly. You can register directly online through e-Protector or through a licensed Overseas Employment Promoter (OEP).

BE&OE's fee table lists a total of Rs 22,200 when you go through an OEP. That includes the promoter's service charge of Rs 15,000, plus the welfare fund, insurance, registration and OEC fees (BE&OE fee structure). BE&OE also states that an OEP must not charge anything beyond the service charges allowed under the Emigration Rules 1972 (BE&OE FAQs). If an agent asks for lakhs of rupees "for the visa", that is a warning sign. Read our guide to recruitment agency fees and migration debt.

Paperwork from Pakistan that takes time

Which country fits you?

  • You have no job offer but a strong profile (under 35, good English, a degree, 3+ years of experience): Canada first, Australia second.
  • You have or can get a job offer in Europe: Germany, for the 21-month settlement route.
  • You are a doctor or nurse: the UK's Health and Care Worker visa has low fees. Canada also runs healthcare draws.
  • You want to earn quickly and support family at home: the Gulf, with a plan to move on later.
  • You are over 45: not Australia's 189. Look at a job offer in Germany or the UK, or Canada if your other points are strong.
